But seriously: it ain't about fashion, nor picking up members of the opposite sex. It's about having your gear handy when you need it. I've always carried some kind of pack, since "Jack Bauer" was just a kid (and so was I). Here is an article with more information on the subject.
I wouldn't carry some of your "gear" in those maxpedition bags. Cops know that if you are wearing one you probably are packing, it's not an issue if you've got a permit and are in the approved places, but it's best not to draw attention to yourself.
That's a good point. With a messenger bag, it's less of an issue; people don't even seem to notice those and they are popular enough to not draw undue attention from cops.
I may never be able to get this grin off my face man. Loved the vid. I keep something like that in my jeep all teh time. Holds stuff that would otherwise be left at home. Much need stuff too.
Hilarious. And you're right about messenger bags -- they're so ubiquitous no one pays any attention to them unless there's some sort of crowd control event going on where backpacks and similar bags aren't allowed.
Possum living is all about living on our own terms, slowing down and kicking back and doing what we really want to be doing instead of burning ourselves out in the pursuit of what society tells us we should strive for. It is about finding easier and more interesting ways of providing what we really need, as an alternative to paying the high price in time, money and freedom that society extracts in exchange for servicing these needs; and about finding the strength to say no to those services we don't really need.
When we ask for freedom, we have already failed. It is only when we declare freedom for ourselves and refuse to accept any less, that we have any possibility of being free.
