Interesting, I might try the air compressor thing on my old '73 Dodge pickup. I have an air conditioning compressor on a '79 Volare 318(LT's Revenge) and the truck has a 318 so it should bolt right on. I have to check out the compressor and see if it is still usable, I seem to remember the air quit on the car.

Even if the compressor is locked up, at least you have the necessary bracketry, so a replacement compressor shouldn't be a problem.
Those compressors use a special crankcase oil, which I have bought at Autozone (they keep it behind the counter, and ya gotta ask for it), but if it is no longer available, plain old 30 weight would probably work.
You have seen my big Wagoneer; I converted the original York A/C compressor in it to an air compressor about 15 years ago. The 2x6 square tube front bumper is the tank, and I mounted a pressure cutoff switch in the firewall. That setup does a great job of running air tools.
